WHAT IS DEATH?

So what is death?
Is it not just a last minute breath taken with the first air of Heaven?
The mortal body hanging on to flesh,
What next?
The breath of life breathes deeply into the immortal soul
Changed in an instant to be like him, My Christ
Lover of my soul
We will be changed quickly into his image
To suffer no more

The grim reaper has spoken once again
Silently knocking at the door of life
Taken with surprise
Almost in front of our eyes

Taken in his sleep as the sound of a gentle summer rain
tapped softly at the window pane
No lightening, no thunder, no wind
Just little rain droplets, coloring and falling
In light shadows of the other dimension
Was that GOD calling

The Usher of the Sprit
Will walk with him though Jordan’s deep waters
The wings of eternity now rest upon his shoulders
He is free, free at last, from the fears of life
Or any other form of envy and strife
That might hold him here in this earthly state

Now, I must ask you, “Death where is your sting”?
Grave, what victory has thee”
Did he not fall asleep
And awake in the arms of Jesus

Spring is finally over
Summer made the final warning
Fall must wait for him and they will walk hand in hand
Together they will search for the eternal green tree
Where they will hear HIM say
“Welcome home my child; you have walked the last mile”

Winter will be spent in the other land
Where the milk and honey flows
There is never any night
And the streets are paved with pure gold

Written especially for my brother-in-law
Who went to sleep and did not wake up on 7/22/07
I love you Joe with all my heart
May you rest in Peace!
