Thirty Pieces of Silver
The oil lamps were dimly lit
Making shadows dance on the wall
Satan was hiding in the shadows
Watching and waiting for the fall
They were there in the upper room
Celebrating the Passover feast
There was Jesus and the twelve
But one would soon be released
It was only minutes before
He had lovingly washed their feet
How it must have grieved Him
To look into the eyes of deceit
He said “One of you will betray me”
Suddenly, a chill was in the air
Master, who will it be? asked John
“The one with this bread I share”
He dipped the bread into the sop
And offered it gently to the traitor
As Judas looked in His tender eyes
Did he not see his own Creator?
Satan gleefully entered the man
His mission, he thought on course
The betrayer left to fulfill his deed
The Sacrifice watched with remorse
For only thirty pieces of silver
This traitor sold his soul to hell
With once last chance to repent
Satan’s greed, instead cast the spell
Man of sorrows, acquainted with grief
Do we still sell Him out today?
For a mere thirty pieces of silver
That will only tarnish and decay
How His heart must be still breaking
To see our betrayal of His grace
Something inside holds onto the purse
And keeps us from His warm embrace
Thank You, Jesus for loving us still
Though lowly traitors we may be
We are unworthy of such great love
The fate of Judas......we should see
Loosen our grip on material things
To let go of our silver and gold
To fall at Your feet, serve only You
For many treasures in heaven to unfold

This is a beautiful poem. One that makes you stop and think.... I've often wondered why Judas didn't just go to Jesus and ask for forgiveness.
He had spent much time with Jesus, and he must have known that He would forgive him.
Thank you for sharing this wonderful poem.
And this sends a chill up my spine, the thought of selling our dear Savior for thirty pieces of silver. Yet, many sell Him for different values. God bless you, my friend.
