You Can't Put it Back

1 John 1:5-9

I’d like you to go to wherever you keep your toothpaste. Please squeeze some of the toothpaste onto your finger.

Now, I’d like you to put it back into the tube.

Having troubles?

This reminds me of how my temper sometimes gets the best of me, and before I know it I’ve squeezed out some very harsh words to a loved one. And, like the toothpaste, once they’re out it’s not possible to put them back where they came from.

After I lose my temper and say things that I don’t mean, it’s important for me to make things right. Making amends isn’t always easy, but repairing relationships is part of life.

But what’s more important is to remember to make things right with God. We’re all human, and the Lord knows that we sometimes do less than our best. But, part of living for the Lord means that we are led, by the Spirit, to live a repentant life. That means that we must confess our sins and resolve to ask God to avoid that same sin in the future.

The toothpaste won’t go back into the tube, but we’re always able to regain forgiveness, in God’s eyes.

1 John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

Dear God: We thank You that You are a forgiving God. We thank You for Your mercy, which is always available to forgive our sins.

Isn't this a wonderful promise? And another even better, "With God ALL things are possible." These two are the mainstays of my Christian walk!! Excellent succinct devotional.

I liked the devotional on toothpaste.

However, what if you do not like the taste of the toothpaste? And there are some brands which I would not buy, no matter what. Some companies believe in things that I do not; evil things like fluoride (we all know how dangerous that is!) and how about those white teeth bushers people, always smiling (I know they have something to hide behind those pearly teeth). And should I mention about the colors - blue, red, some with stripes, I even saw a green one once.
Yup, squirt the paste out, who cares? If you are foolish enough to belong to that crowd you deserve it!

I am certainly glad that I have never had to try to put tooth paste back into the tube. No sir, not me!

Thank you again for the wonderful devotional. I hope that I didn't miss anything out of it. :)
