Out of My Comfort Zone

Proverbs 1:5-7

For many years, I was a teacher. I loved being a teacher, and loved knowing enough about my subject to be considered an authority. It gave me a sense of pride to be sought out by people who needed information about my subject.

Two weeks ago, I transferred to a different department within my company. After two weeks on this job, all I know is that I have a lot to learn. After being “the authority” for so long, I now realize that even the assistants in this department know more than I do.

I can see that God has led me to a place where I will be out of my comfort zone for a few months. This is very difficult, and yet as I feel discomfort I’m learning to lean on my Comforter more and more. I am learning that God is my ultimate source of security; my 22 years of experience are a mere foundation for me now.

Are you now in a place where you’re out of your own comfort zone? Is your situation something that is very different than your past situations? Know that He stands ready to give you the knowledge and comfort that you need, every day.

Prov 1: 5 Let the wise listen and add to their learning, and let the discerning get guidance.

Prayer: God, please be with us in every new situation. Help us to be humble enough to learn, yet confident enough to act on our new knowledge.

Thank you Donna for sharing in the generic as God would have you do. I, too, had 22 years doing a particular job and when I retired came back as a clinical instructor, "the authority". Now I do travel nursing and the first person I seek out and learn their name is the ward clerk. I have learned they are the ones who know where things are and the flow of the department. The second is either the nursing aid or house keeping.
Again, thank you for sharing and may God continue to use you in His service.
