Through a Mother’s Eyes

There’s a beauty standing here, before me.
In misty white, (I’m dabbing at my eyes.)
She smiles that fetching smile that says she’s happy,
Like Christmas morning's wonderful surprise.

She’s looking in the mirror, taking notice
Of any flaw that hides from frontal view.
But, I see something different in the mirror,
A little girl, all dressed in Alice blue ...

Hair tied up, softly, in the bouncing pony tail
And dolly tucked beneath her elbow ~ safe,
A pretty flower there, within her golden locks ~
A look of satisfaction on her face!

Just short years back, I called and she came running
(So full of sparkles, twinkling little eyes)
And this day’s blessing brings the sparkling beauty ...
But, just a little moisture (my surprise).

I wonder if he’ll know he has a diamond.
I wonder if she’ll always precious be.
Oh, mother, back! Just look upon the sweetest face
And know he cannot help but see.

And God, give them a life with You included
In every fragment, every twist and turn;
Things they need to keep their faith united,
Quick to learn the lessons they must learn.

Bless them with the senses that know angels.
Give them ears to hear the Spirit’s song.
And stay, from early morning to the twilight;
Walk every step with them their whole life long.
