Marriage

I woke to darkness, soft as velvet,
hearing the patter of the rain,
everything outside is in shades of dark blue,
framed by my window pane.

Cars go by, headlights on,
like searchlights finding the way,
and for just a moment the street is lit up,
a preview of a shiny wet day.

It reminds me of how I used to be lost,
and could not find a safe place,
and wandered around like one in the dark,
a futile journey without peace or grace...

But then, just briefly, I saw a light,
and knew that it had to be,
Someone who could lead me home,
surround me with love and set me free.

No sooner than the thought had left my mind,
when Jesus was there by my side,
and forgiveness was mine if I'd only accept it,
in Him I could always hide.

He gave me a new life that wonderful day,
and now the light always shines,
wonder of wonders, that was only the beginning,
of the blessings that were to be mine.

Jesus healed my heart, transformed my life
gave it back to me brand new,
and when He was ready, He brought me new love,
my happiness complete when He gave me you.

Now I don't mind the dark of night,
the rain doesn't weigh me down with cares,
for all things now are the source of joy,
and I'll bring them to you to share.

I thank God for being the light in my dark,
for showing me all that is true,
and blessing me so richly since then,
with the love that I have for you!
