5 WAYS TO CONQUER THE GLOOM

I was just commenting to someone the other day about not letting your mind overtake your actions. I recalled a time when they were always gloomy and never had a good word. They also remembered and we rejoiced that things had changed in their life to the point where they can now see the good in everything!

Many times we ponder our situation over and over but when the final thought is discussed, we find we have many choices and it is up to us to make the right one. How do we accomplish that? With advice from a trusted friend, sometimes counseling, and confidence in God!

There is a saying –“Don’t let gloom, enter the room”. If we try to surround ourselves with the good, we will be able to do just that! We need to think happy, positive thoughts and speak words of encouragement if the opportunity arrives when talking to others.

2 Thessalonians 2:15-17 So then, brothers, stand firm and hold to the teachings we passed on to you, whether by word of mouth or by letter. May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal encouragement and good hope, encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good deed and word.

In God’s word we find many times where we can encourage each other. We all need strength and love. If we are to conquer the gloom in our lives, we need to practice smiling! Even when we don’t feel much like doing that, we need to try it because it is uplifting and brings happiness. Yes, you may still feel unhappy inside, but for the moment it lifts your soul! It also makes others happy that you meet along the way. That is the first step to conquering the gloom and it is an important one.

The next step is to remember we are loved! Maybe we have been rejected by the family, a close friend has hurt us, someone has wronged us in some way or whatever the situation may be, but God still loves us!

Thirdly, we need to think happy thoughts and be surrounded by happiness and love.

Fourth, we need to rejoice and sing praises to God!

Psalm 63:5
My soul will be satisfied as with the richest of foods; with singing lips my mouth will praise you. and to the Lamb be praise and honor and glory and power, for ever and ever!"

Revelation5:13Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all that is in them, singing: "To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be praise and honor and glory and power, for ever and ever!"

Psalm104:33 I will sing to the LORD all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live.

Thankfulness is a BIG part of our lives. We need to be thankful to God for the large things and the small, and to others who try to help us along the way.

These are examples of praises we can give to God each and EVERY day. We also need to practice our own words--Jesus I love you, thank you for this day, thank you that you love me, I love you etc, etc. We need to practice until our thoughts become a praise to God for everything!

After we accomplish that, we will have a lighter heart, a more thankful attitude and a smile! So here are the guidelines to conquer gloom.

1 – Wear a smile even when you don’t feel like it – practice!!

2 – Remember – you are loved!!

3 – Surround yourself with good, happy thoughts and positive words

4 – Rejoice and sing praises to God no matter how large or small the situations may be.

5 – In everything—give thanks, have a grateful heart

If we can accomplish these things, we will find a balance in our lives with God at the center of it all. Life isn’t easy and we are all human, but with God, all things are possible—all the time!

God bless you today. Time to conquer the gloom!!

In Him, Cathy
