Marriage

I imagined I was a child again,
going out to the candy store,
and given a small paper bag to hold,
to hold all the sweet goodies I’d want, and more.

I stood before the counter,
looking in all the glass jars of sweets,
and deciding which of them I would choose
to fill my paper bag of treats.

It made me think of loving you,
and all that I wish I could do,
like God's own sweet shop, I'd go in each day,
and pick out loving things, fresh and new.

I'd put sweet chunks of hope and dreams,
that I know God will make come true,
and tiny bits of laughter, covered with joy,
all my special favorites, picked just for you.

sprinkles of grace, and crispy bits of surprise,
these give the treats that something more,
and now the bag is full, ready to give,
to the husband that I adore!

The wonderful thing about all these treats
is that they cannot be eaten by one,
they have to be shared, for the sweetness comes only then,
the giving and receiving makes the two of us one.

What a joy to be able each day,
to pick out the treats - all brand new,
and discover a new collection of wonderful ways,
to tell how much I LOVE YOU!
