Keeping Up Appointments

While going through his appointment files Daryl Sinclair complained openly to his secretary about his subordinate sells personnel failure in keeping their daily appointments with their clients. Getting on the office intercom, Daryl called an immediate staff meeting to determine the problem or problems then that immediate and appropriate action to correct the situation.

In a room with 32 people, Daryl was amazed by their silence and failure to interact with each other concerning this problem. “Linda,” Daryl said, “if you made an appointment to meet me at a certain time and a certain place, would you stand me up?”

“Of course not,” Linda responded.

“So why did you do so with three of our most respected and wealthiest clients?” She did not respond. She stood without giving Daryl a single reason why she failed to keep her appointments.

A similar question was asked of Barry, Mike and Karen. In like fashion, each failed to give Daryl, their superior, an answer or an account for their failure to keep his or her appointments.

Casey, Melissa and 9 other employees responded much in the same manner. Daryl reminded each employee of their responsibilities to their clients and that their very lives depended upon them.

Christians need to keep in mind that they have an appointment with God each and every day. They should visualize Him standing before them waiting for Him because, in fact, He is. If a Christian does not keep their appointment with God each day, they’re standing Him up.

Many people say they are followers of Jesus Christ. Yet they fail to keep their appointment through daily prayer and reading of their Bible—the word of God. God expects His followers to honor our appointments with Him. In so doing, He will be able to impart grace—His most precious and valuable gift ever granted humankind. God doesn’t fail humanity, how then can we fail Him?
