C O M M O N S E N S E: The Gift (2)

Once upon a time or so the story goes, there was a young woman who came into a great sum of money. Considering all things, she thought of sharing that wealth with her friends and co-workers. The only problem was how.

"Could she just distribute the money in tens and twenties? Buy a special gift for each? Show love for some and friendship for others by the amount they received?" She thought. Each answer posed its own delimma that would cause rifts between her friends and co-workers, so "no" was the answer.

Finally, she struct on the idea of providing each with something special and extravagant, yet equal to all. She settled on a cake. A very expensive confectionary.

Running her fingers in the telephone book, she found a baker of extreme talents and orders a confectionary worthy of her love for her friends and co-workers. Then she arranged for it to be transported to her workplace and placed so everyone could get an equal share.

To her amazement and bewilderment, some rejected the gift out right, others didn't want to participate, while others just didn't want to waste their time eating with everyone else. Therefore, only a few freely received and enjoyed themselves.

When the expensive and extravagant confectionary was all gone, then she told all her friends and co-workers of its value. Then there was weeping and gnashing of teeth. Some who rejected the gift became upset demanding their portion of the gift. Others moved by remose pleaded for one more opportunity. Still others cried at the lose. Only those who received felt satisfied in their souls.


COMMON SENSE SAYS: Salvation by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is a free gift set before the world. Its value is priceless, yet there are those who still reject it. And in that hour, there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
