PROSPERITY BY ASSCOCIATION

“ So Abram departed, as the Lord had spoken unto him; and Lot went with him: and Abram was seventy-five years old when he departed out of Haran, “ And Abraham was very rich in cattle, in silver and in gold…. And Lot also, which went with Abram, had flocks, and herds and tents” ( Gen 12:4, 13:2,5).

Abraham had God’s calling and blessing upon his life. God told him to leave his country, kindred and father’s house to a land He would show him and he obeyed but not completely. Lot, Abraham’s nephew, went with him; he was a family member, that’s why I said Abraham did not obey completely. However, because God had determined to bless Abraham, he blessed him with material things and he became rich in cattle, in silver and in gold. I want you to notice that Lot was also blessed, he equally became a rich man, and he had flocks, herds, tents and many servants. Lot had many possessions that the land could no longer contain Abraham and him, their servants frequently quarreled. God did not call Lot, he never heard from God and God never promised him anything, Abraham was the one who had the blessing. Lot became rich through his association with Abraham. We can learn important lessons that:
- You become like whom you follow.
- If you get connected to one who is blessed, you will also be blessed.

The relationship between Abraham and Lot after departure from their home country was more than uncle- nephew relationship; they also had a mentor- protégé relationship. Lot grew under Abraham’s business. He must have learnt practical principles about animal husbandry and how to manage the business and servants. Lot was able to succeed because he learnt the principles of success as Abraham practiced it and applied it in his own life.

“ He that walketh with wise men shall be wise; but a companion of fools shall be destroyed” ( Prov 13:20)

Friend, your life cannot remain the same if you pursue the company of wise people. Pursue people who have succeeded in the field of your endeavor, ask them questions. It has been said, “ The secret of great men is in their stories”. We often miss it when we pursue what our mentors have earned instead of what they have learned. We should not ask them to give us fish but to teach us how to fish. If you know what your mentor knows, then it’s a matter of time; the least you would achieve is what your mentor has achieved. It’s unfortunate how people feel comfortable associating with people on the same level with them and feel intimidated when in the presence of people of higher status. We see poor people having fellowship among one another and bemoaning their situations, how there is no money for rent, school fees of children, food, etc. They only have a pity party and nothing changes. But if the poor associates with the rich, they could learn the things the rich people know and practice them to create wealth. Just one idea can turn someone’s life around.

Some things are taught while others are caught. God’s anointing upon Abraham definitely rubbed off on Lot by their association, Lot contacted anointing for prosperity. Those are the kinds of things that can be transferred to you and you would be able to produce similar results to your mentor. Elisha was a servant of Elijah pouring water on his hands and developed a hunger for anointing. He, not those in the prophetic school, got the double portion of Elijah’s anointing and succeeded his master. Catch the spirit of excellence around great men in your life and you’ll have the same results that they have. You can connect with the anointing on the life of a man of God by giving offerings to the ministry and partnering with him in the fulfillment of God-given visions.

You shall prosper as you associate with the prosperous!
