Therefore the anger of the Lord
is aroused against His people;
He has stretched out His Hand
against them,
And stricken them,
And the hills trembled.
Their carcasses were as refuse
in the midst of the streets.

For all this His anger is not turned away.
But His Hand is stretched out still.
[Isaiah 5:25]

(I'm scared of this Lord! Who is He,
anyway? Can this be the same Lord of
the New Testament: the God of Grace?)

(Silence.)

(Neah, I don't think so.)

(Silence.)

"Lord?"

"What."

(Oy. I better not say anything, tonight.
He sounds like He's already in a bad mood.)

"What, child. Speak."

"Well, You know, Lord: I was reading
Isaiah, again."

"I see."

"Well, I'm just more comfortable with this
part, Lord. What can I say?"

"You say a great deal, child."

"Well, I'm sorry, Lord. I just don't understand
why You were so mean, all the time. And, then
I look at Your Other Book, and it's, like,
totally different."

"Which One, child."

"You know: the One with Jesus, and all."

"And, all?"

"Well, yeah. You know."

"Yes, I know."

"I'm sorry Lord, but I just can't relate
the Two of You; I mean, You're, like,
real nasty in the O.T., and Jesus is really
sweet, and compassionate....."

"Real nasty, child?"

"Well! Sometimes, You were a little nice...."

"Read My Book, daughter."

"Okay:

In the evening quails came up and covered the camp;
and in the morning, dew lay round about the camp.
And, when the dew had gone up,
there was on the face of the wilderness,
a fine, flake-like thing......
....the people of Israel said....What is it?....
....Moses said to them: It is the bread
which the Lord has given you to eat.
[Exodus 16:13-15]

You fed us, Lord."

"Yes, child."

"Okay, Lord; I guess You were
compassionate in the Old Testament, sometimes,
too. But....."

"Child, I am He, the One Who loves you."

"But, Lord! I'm just having trouble putting
the Two of You together......"

"Read My Word, child: all of it."

"I'll try, Lord. I promise:

It was not Moses who gave you the bread
from Heaven;
My Father gives you the true bread from Heaven....
....I am the Bread of Life.
[John 6:32-35]

Jesus is beautiful, Lord."

(SILENCE.)

"I used to see You, Lord, as very cold and
distant. But, after hearing about Jesus.....
I don't think so, Lord."

"No, child?"

"No, Lord. I think You're really just
the opposite, Lord: very passionate about
us."

(Silence.)

"I love You, Father."
********************************
For God so loved the world
that He gave His Only Son,
that whoever believes in Him
should not perish,
but have eternal life.
[John 3:16]
