I asked the Lord for wings
I longed to fly away…
Beyond the horizon
To a place of no sorrows
A land without tears and fears

I asked the Lord for wings
These burdens I can no longer carry
Depressed and in despair
I closed my eyes to sleep
And dreamt of flying away

I asked the Lord for wings
Maybe I’ll find a place of unlimited bliss
In the distant land
I awoke and nothing had changed
So I closed my eyes again

I asked the Lord for wings
Although He said 'NO'
He gave me something better
For which I am eternally grateful
This time I close my eyes to whisper praise

I asked the Lord for wings
He gave me courage for the crisis
A still peace within to face the storm
His hand to hold me tight
And his love to gladden my heart.
