Today was the first time
that I ever saw this person
that I had been living with
all of my life.

As I walked around doing
the task that I had planned
for the day, I stopped
and looked in the mirror.

For once, I believe I had
saw the person that I had
been looking for all of my life.

I looked at my hair showing
a little gray.
I looked at my eyes that had
seen so much.
I looked at my nose that
paused to smell a rose here
and there.
I looked at my lips that
always chose to smile no
matter what the weather.
I looked at my ears that
were always grateful to listen,
I looked at my hands that
had seen many a day of hard work.

Then I looked at my full
face and I saw much youth
still there.
I saw the wisdom of the years
gone by and a peace to let me
know that everything will be okay.

I must say, I thank God,
for this precious moment in time,
because today... I met me.

Oh my Cheryl! I related so much with this. I've had those truly "seeing me" moments as well (usually when I'm almost standing upside down cleaning the wardrobe mirrors in our bedroom!) ;-) Your poem was truly precious and I loved the way you came to the end of the examination with the thankfulness to God for who you are. My only critique would be that you need to take care of your tenses. In other words, "seen" when it should be "saw". Some times the use of "seen" is spot on, but there are a few times where it needs to be changed to "saw". The other thing was in "I looked at my ears that
was always grateful to listen". The "was" needs to be changed to "were" because ears is plural. Just little things that are easily edited. The poem as a whole was really quite lovely. With love, Deb
