Born Again

Though I was dead,
My spirit was quickened,
While buried beneath,
My self-willed heart.
Walking headlong,
In hand with disaster,
As far from Christ,
As light from dark.

A child of defiance,
In a lust filled mind,
Where Satan the accuser,
Kept me so blind.
Lacking riches of mercy,
Compassion and peace,
A stranger to the covenant,
Until Jesus came to me.

Uncircumcised in heart,
With a flesh driven soul,
Enemy to righteousness,
Guest of Satan’s household.

And alien to the common-
Wealth of the Saint’s,
Just drifting in a hopeless,
State of restraint.

Not a new revelation,
That opened my eyes,
That shook up my world,
Broke down my pride.

Just Christ softly calling,
Never ceasing his bid,
To return to Him,
Until I finally did.

You can’t see the Kingdom,
While standing in sin,
But you see it so clearly,
Once you’re born again.
