Birth cradles a soul; a new life comes to be;
Wrapped in flesh made whole; convulses to be free;
A whine of life embraces the golden light and air;
Unknown to what it faces, the babe breathes a dare;

He learns his precious will, to exercise abandon;
Of joy he drinks his fill, and loves to live the random;
O, precious soul so true, love the life you’re given,
And love the heart found in you, to be so passion-driven;

Flying by the hour, he learns of love incessant,
Emotions hold a power; he seems he’ll be so bent;
But hearts, he learns, are fickled, as loves come and go;
His soul gains a wrinkle, with each deluding blow;

And then, in time, she comes, to catch his winsome heart;
She beats the lover’s drum, declaring she’ll ne’er part;
He’s in a dream, it seems; lost within her eyes;
They savor love’s sweet cream; a gleeful amorous rise;

Union brings another new life; they oft think they’re happy;
They are living what seems right, as we all should be;
Years come and go, with new kids; what will the future bring?
But they are distracted by life’s skids, while eternity softly sings;

Gray hair comes, and then the silver, with a life of ease;
But then her death as his heart welters; gone his joy and peace;
He soon seeks a life beyond; will he love again?
Moving to forget how he’s not strong, tyranny time moves in;

Ravenous is death, the bite draws forth,
To take the breath, grappling for the shore;
Vicious flying rapier cuts the silver cord;
Pulls another saber; death’s an unkind lord.
