A Beautiful Painting


One day I saw a beautiful painting
Of a woman with a baby in her arm.
You could tell by the look of love in her eyes,
She would not let this child come to harm.

Before birth an Angel told her who her son was,
So do you think she felt uneasy or odd.
Do you think that each time she kissed His cheek,
Mary knew she kissed the face of God?

As Jesus took His first few steps,
Mary proudly told all she could find.
But just a few years later she had to watch,
As to the Cross His hands they did bind.

I know she felt happy and warm,
As she tickled Him and saw His smile.
She could never have imagined how she’d feel,
Watching Him carry His Cross the last mile.


One day I saw a beautiful painting,
Of a woman with a baby in her arm.
You could tell by the look of love in her eyes,

Imagine the happiness she must have felt,
When boy Jesus made a toy boat with sails.
But the helplessness as she stood at the Cross,
When in His hands they drove those rusty nails.

The pain and heartache she had deep inside,
To see her son nailed upon that tree.
And to hear Him say that man next to you,
Is now your son, not me.

I cannot feel what she must have felt,
As she watched Him draw His final breath.
I do not know how she stood to stand,
And watch her own sons painful death.

One day I saw a beautiful painting,
