Larry Lilly's Letter Friday February 23, 2007

A friend sent the following to me and insists that it is true. I have disguised the story just a tad in order to avoid lawsuits, which Christians no longer feel are forbidden in the scriptures as a current apostate group of 'Professors' are demonstrating in the fair city of Greenwood.

My longtime friend writes:

"A tad off your topic for today, but still, an example of excuses and a true story at that. A distant relative of mine was once employed at Chrysler here in Indianapolis. He lived in Indiana. He was certain he was sick, but could not find a doctor that would agree. He went from one to another attempting to find a doctor who would agree, but to no avail. Despite the efforts of the union, he was about to be fired because of absenteeism, laziness, etc. In a last ditch attempt to seal their position, Chrysler sent him to a doctor of their choosing for a complete examination. He drove to Indianapolis for the appointment. After a battery of tests, looking over medical histories and test results of other physicians, the doctor told him he had discovered his problem. My relative perked up, eager to hear. The doctor told him that in his professional opinion he was suffering from "Exertion Dread" and that it appeared to be chronic and there was apparently nothing medical science could do about it. He then left the room. This dimwit called his wife from the doctor's office with this revealing news and asked her to get a neighbor to drive his car home and come and get him because he was afraid to try to drive. He was, shortly thereafter, fired by Chrysler."

Well.

I am positive the clergy will adapt in toto the new name for an old disease, "Exertion Dread."

For many years in speaking to preachers and wanna bees, I insisted that if any man, or woman for that matter, would work in the Lord's vineyard as diligently as they would if they worked at Chrysler or GM, they could not fail in the work the Lord has called them to. By that I meant show up on time, sober, (you would be surprised) ready to work, do your devotions at home, have the necessary tools ready to use, do the work in your job description, let the wife take the child to the doctors as if you were actually working instead of looking out of the office window, or more importantly playing games on the computer. I asked one former associate why he suffered so from 'Exertion Dread' and he told me that as a child he had been forced to help milk the cows and he had never fully recovered!! I promise you this is the answer this Knight of Cross gave to me. And further General Motors paid more. I soon had him in line at the Chevrolet plant in Indy!!

Please understand, I am not lazy because I going home early today, rather I have a terrible case of "Exertion Dread!"
