Grief

The founding Pastor of our Church went to be with the Lord last night. Although we are all very saddened and will miss him, we know he is finally with Jesus; right where he has wanted to be for a very long time. He was 83 years young and served the Lord just about all his life. He founded our Church, Victory Baptist in 1954. He was a great saint and loved God with all his heart. I, personally will miss those twinkling eyes and loving spirit. I wrote this little poem as a tribute to to Brother Odie Grammer.


Ode to Brother Odie

A dear old saint has gone to heaven
And oh, how we’ll all miss him down here
But we know he was ready to see Jesus
So we must try hard not to shed a tear.

How they all must be rejoicing now
As Bro. Odie walks on streets of gold
You know his legs are working fine now
And his body is no more waxing old.

There must’ve been many souls to greet him
Those he won for his Lord and King
Who are now thanking him with gratitude
And offering praises to God as they sing

I can just see old Brother Odie smiling
With that sweet twinkle back in his eyes!
As the Saviour comes to welcome him home
And then offers to him, God’s eternal prize.

So we will rejoice in his life everlasting
We will celebrate his life on this earth
In earnest faith of the hope that is promised
From the Son of God who gives new birth

If Bro. Odie could preach one more sermon
I think I know just what he would say;
“Please don’t wait, give your life to Jesus
Because for all, there is coming a day.”
