How often we have come across the discussion about Baptism and we have heard all sorts of different opinions and theories concerning the same. Some of us think Baptism is just a tradition and ritual, it’s just an outward form of ceremony, which we as Christians perform. But searching the scripture and reading the word of God concerning the definition of Baptism we will come to know that Baptism has a very intense, profound and deep meaning and when the Spirit of the Most High God revealed Lord’s revelation concerning the same, I was really amazed the way Lord open my spiritual eyes and understanding towards the deepness of the same.

While I was reading 1 Peter 3, I came across verse 21 that says about the true definition of Baptism it says, “ This water symbolizes baptism that now saves you also not the removal of dirt from the body but the pledge of a good conscience toward God.” Reading carefully we come across the word “Pledge” which means “Response, promise, vow, oath” and many more other synonyms. The revelation that the Lord brought through this word “Pledge” concerning the process Baptism is as follows: -

1.That I/We believe in Trinuneship of God.

2.That The Lord our God is one, and will love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength

3.That all the scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

4.That When God created Men was Holy but it was the disobedience of Men that cause the downfall of entire human race and so sin entered; and the wages of sin is death.

5.That God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the Law, to redeem, those under the law, that we might receive the full rights of Son.

6.That we/I all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. God presented him as a sacrifice of atonement, through faith in his blood.

7.That God demonstrates his Love for us in this; while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us and God made him to rise back from death on third day and at present he is seated at the right hand of our Heavenly Father, intercessing for all of us as High Priest of our faith and is coming back in the appointed time and season of God our Father in Heaven, to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.

8.That the Lord our God that gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your forefathers, as it is today. For He is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us.

9.That as the Lord has said, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! And so we/I shall not depend upon our human strength, knowledge and wisdom but through the help of the Holy Spirit we will live the new life glorifying our Lord and Saviour Christ and will seek first his Kingdom and his righteousness and the Lord of all mercies and compassion will bless us, provide us and supply all our needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus.

10.That we/I will obey his commands and do what pleases him. And this is his command: to believe in the name of his son, Jesus Christ, and to love another, for if we do so we know that he lives in us and we know it by the Spirit he gave us.


11.That we/I will let the word of God dwell in us richly as we teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as we sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in our hearts to God. And whatever we will do, whether in word or deed, we will do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

12.That as Jesus during the days of his life upon the earth, offered up prayers and petitions with loud cries and tears, so also we will make requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving for everyone- for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness, for this is good and pleases God our Saviour, who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. For there is one God and One mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all men- the testimony given in its proper time.

13.That we/I will endure everything for the sake of the elect that they too may obtain Salvation that is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory. For we know that we are more then conquerors through him who loved us. For we are convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus.

14.That when we/I are cursed, we will bless; when we are persecuted, we will endure; when we are slandered, we will answer kindly, we will pray for those who mistreats us; we will lend generously to those who asks; we will forgive others sins as our sins are forgiven in Christ Jesus. We will live by the Spirit, and will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature but we will we live our lives by the fruit of the Spirit that are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.

15.That we/I being the body of Christ and its part, we will honour and revere the appointment made in the church of God that is, first of all apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then workers of miracles, also those having gifts of healing, those able to help others, those with the gift of administration, and those speaking in different kinds of tongues, so that we God’s people are prepared for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.

16.That we/I will not rebuke an older man harshly, but exhort him as if he were our father. Treat younger men as brothers, older women as mothers; and younger women as sisters, with absolute purity. And we will give proper recognition to those widows who are really in need and will take care of our relatives, and especially for our immediate family. We will do good to all people, especially to those who belongs to the family of believers.

17.That we/I will sow generously and in the spirit of giving, because He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase our store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of our righteousness. We will be made rich in every way so that we can be generous on every occasion, and through our generosity it will result into thanksgiving to God.

18.That we/I are chose people, a royal priest-hood, a holy, nation, a people belonging to God, that we may declare the praises of him who called us out of darkness into his wonderful light.

19.That Jesus is the alpha and the omega, the beginning and the end, and he is coming soon with his rewards and will give to everyone according to what he has done. That our citizenship is in heaven. And we await a Saviour from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that we will be like his glorious body.


20.That I/ We have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me and so I pledge myself to the great commission that Jesus has given, “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Beloved members of the Body of Christ, the intensity and the depthness of the word “Pledge” gives us more clear vision and understanding about Baptism, for know when we talk about baptism or someone of us may take baptism, we should remember that it’s not only a social occasion, neither it is a ceremony, neither a ritual but it is a “Pledge”- about what the Lord all has revealed about which in turns helps us to go before god with a good conscience, for unless and until the basics of one’s faith are clear how can we please God.

Friends I pray to our Heavenly Father that He shall help each one of us to receive his revelations prayerfully and faithfully and will help us to grow, develop and become mature day by day in His word and in His calling, May God Bless you all-Amen.

Glory, Honour and Praise, all belongs to the Lord our God, our Father in Heaven, for He has brought His revelations and understanding, Glory to Him alone-Amen!!

Friends let us keep on exhorting each other, for we do not know when our lives will come to an end, so let us take opportunity that Lord is giving us and minister each other as well as the people out there who are lost, May Lord give me His grace and to everyone of you to press on hard towards the goal that has been set up for us, the prize that is kept safe with the Lord in the heaven, that is Eternal Life.
