Temperature Control

Where I work, we have to monitor the temps of the chicken all throughout the day. It must always have a temp between the range of 140-165. As soon as it comes out of the fryer we take the temp and if it falls below this range, back in the fire it goes.

This got me to thinking about our spiritual temperature. Let’s look for a minute what the Church of Laodicea was told:

Revelation 3:15-19 I know thy works that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot.

So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.
Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:

I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eye salve, that thou mayest see.

As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.

We’ve heard sermons preached on this scripture for years; we know the dangers of being lukewarm, but have we given much thought to what it takes to be hot? Have we considered the implications of being zealous?

In order for me to sell my chicken, it must HOT! It is unacceptable to sell anything but hot chicken! Yesterday, while I was dropping the meat in the fire it crossed my mind that in order for our spiritual thermometer to be correct we have to go through the fire.

We tend to fall into complacency and if we are in the fires of purification, we want out! It is a painful process, but what if while going through the fire we understood we would come out like pure gold? What if going through the fire we understood we would be delivered from the spirit of complacency?

What is your temp today? Are you lukewarm? Are you cold? Are you hot? Do you pray for the fiery trials to end? Are you screaming to be pulled out of the fire cause you just can’t take anymore?

Lord, we don’t want to be found in a lukewarm condition! We want to burn with passion for the cross! We want to be zealous and repent of our complacency! Help us Lord, as we go through the fires to see the process is for purification! Help us Lord to see that the fires burn off the things in our life that is not pleasing to You and help us Lord to know You are always with us – even in the fire! We humbly ask in Your Name, Amen
