Divine Appointments

Let me set the stage for you. Where I work we stay very busy with a flow of customers. Most are in a hurry and it is our responsibility to get them in and out in a timely fashion. On this particular day, everything was normal, customers flowed through our store and my team worked diligently to meet their needs. Then it happened. Everything stopped. Later, I would visualize angels standing by the door holding everyone at bay for just a moment.

I began making a sandwich for a gentleman and had not paid much attention to the couple that stood at the other end of the counter being assisted by another employee. I noticed my customer looked very tired. He didn’t speak with excitement, but rather responded to my questions with very little words. By the time we reached the end of the line, I noticed a pink bracelet he was wearing. I asked him if it was for breast cancer and that is when he looked at me and said, “Yes, it’s for my wife. She had both breast removed and now they’ve found she has cancer in her liver.”

He was now standing near the couple at the other end of the counter and the man overheard and said, “You know Jesus is still the Healer.” For the next two or three minutes this man and myself ministered to this young man (keep in mind, all customer traffic had ceased and it was just us). It was as if the weight of the world rolled off his shoulders for just a moment. Something changed in his eyes, and I knew we’d had an encounter with the Most High!

Before he left I asked him his wife’s name and I told him to tell her there was someone in New Mexico praying for her. He left and the minute he stepped out the door the customer flow began. A few minutes later he came back in and got my attention and said, “Thank You.”

So what happened? This was a divine appointment. I would have loved to sit down with this young man and talk with him and pray with him, but it wasn’t necessary. God was in control and the appointment had been kept.

The message is very clear, God knows where Sueanne and her husband are and loves them so much, and enough to reach down, into a busy day and slow the traffic so this young man could hear the words Jesus loves you and your wife. We must be attentive to those around us, and recognize we all have divine appointments to keep. We must be sensitive to the Holy Spirit so as not to get ourselves in the way. I could have told him all about my experience with breast cancer and on and on, but that’s not what was needed. That was not the plan for this appointment!

Someone you meet today needs to know Jesus loves them. Maybe you will show them through an act of kindness or perhaps a hug! Often there is a misconception that in order to minister to someone we have to preach a sermon or point out all the judgments of God, but the words Jesus loves you can penetrate far deeper than we can even comprehend!

Be sensitive today to the Holy Spirit and watch what unfolds!

Lord God Almighty, thank You for loving us enough to reach down into a crazy busy world and touch our lives! Thank You for showing us compassion and tenderness when the weight of the world seems unbearable! Help us to be sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit, so that we too can share Your love with those around us! Help us to meet every divine appointment you have planned for us today!

Lord, we also ask for a special touch for Sueanne and her husband! You know who they are and where they are! Meet them right where they are, in Your Mighty Name we pray, AMEN!
