Today the song
Sounds so sweet
Our hearts beat
So fast
Today it enkindle
Our deep rooted
Sleeping patriotism
Today together
We share our joy
No one bothers to notice
If you are a Moslem or a Christian
Pagan or atheist
Today we are all one
Following the Super Eagles
Chanting victory song

Even if we lose
Today together
We share our pains
Nobody cares if you are…
…Hausa, Igbo, Yoruba
Or any other tribe
And the music sounds
So sweet today

When the music stops
The endemic that faded out
At that temporary moment of euphoria
Engulf the air again
After celebrating victory
Mourning failure or disappointment
And who would ever believe
That together we sang the song
Beat the drum, shout and cry
All for one and one for all
That in no time
We would strangle each other
Consume by preposterous apoplexy
Of bugbear of intense hatred
Rain of blood across the land

Death catches abundant prey
From north to east, south and west
As we blame each other
For our human faults
The same foible inherent in all of us

And who would ever believe
That we would sit together again
Singing the sweetest song
Chanting victory song
Embracing each other
Hugging and kissing
Like lovers separated that fall back in love
When the Eagles fly so high
As if we never fought
And would never fight again
