About Abby Ding Glove

Abby inspired me to write a poem about her today . . . Abby, a cute Squirrel, adopted me as her "Keeper" and I ended up naming her "Abby Ding Glove" I am currently working on a "Children's Series" where Abby is the main character, along with a lot of her animal friends.

Many of you are aware of my love for all animals. I just find it so amazing, that because of this . . . Animals and I relate. It is as though they understand me, and I understand them.

I was sitting in my front office at my computer, trying to think of another topic for a poem . . .

I saw movement out of the corner of my eye, and looking up, I saw Abby Ding Glove.

I turned and said "Hi, Abby . . . I suppose you have come for breakfast" ...

At this point Abby was trying to peer in between the blinds to see if she could see me at my desk. This little lady . . . Is a very smart squirrel!

I got up from my seat, Abby, seeing me do that jumped from the railing where she sits, and ran to the front door. I went to the door with my bag of raw peanuts in hand, as Abby ran up to greet me, anxiously awaiting to catch a peanut and scurry up her maple tree, that sits in front of my house.

I have a lot of squirrels visit, but ONLY ABBY is allowed the pleasure of sitting in the little stump, up in the tree. There, she has a side ledge where she puts an extra peanut, when she can manage to carry two of them up the tree at the same time. I suppose she has marked her territory on that stump, for I know it is Abby . . . when I see her up at her stump, at any given time.

I just love the simplicity of it! Abby senses my love for her, she knows to look in the window to see if I am there. She knows when I spot her, to get down and run to the front door . . . with knowledge that I will open it with a bag of peanuts to give her a treat. Her body language, shows me how happy she is. I feel sure she would allow me to pet her, maybe even pick her up. . . If I dare.

The other day, I stepped out on the porch, after coming up from my basement. My neighbor said "Judie, you just missed Abby, she was waiting by your porch" . . . "She looked in the window, waited a bit, then left." "I tried to feed her, but she wouldn't come near." I asked her how long Abby had been gone, my neighbor answered "About five minutes, she went up over the hill."

I called out "Abby . . . Abby" a few minutes later, Abby came running down the hill and right up to me at the front porch. Of course, I fed her. My neighbor started laughing. . .she said "Never in my life (she is 75 years old) have I seen anything like it !". . . "The way these animals listen to you and understand you, and you them!"

ABBY DING GLOVE

Peeking through my window
To see what she could see
Was my little friend Abby
That lives in my maple tree

I marvel at her intelligence
Her timing and her ways
So sure, to trust in me . . .
When she visits, most days

It reminds me . . of Jesus
And how we count on Him
Knowing He will be there
Time and time . . . Again

When we go to Him wanting
Having faith that He’ll be there
His door is always open . . .
And we can find Him there

It is faith and love at work
Bringing trust. . .In the end
The same that I show to Abby
A little Squirrel, my little friend!
