And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery: and when they had set her in the midst, They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act. So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her. Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst. When Jesus lifted up himself and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee? She said, No man, Lord, And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more. John 8:3,4,7,9b,10,11 KJV

The woman was taken to a place where she was the center of attention. Not only the attention of her accusers, but the attention of God Almighty. "They set her in the midst" Those who had brought her had the authority to take her physical life by stoning but the much Greater One, in whose presence she stood, had authority over her very soul.
Those who brought her before Jesus fully intended that all attention would be on her and her sin of adultery but to their discomfort, the gaze of the Lord Jesus fell on them first. Not able to stand up under his scrutiny they slunk away, the oldest sinner to the youngest.
Then the focus of the Lord rested on the woman. What apprehension must have filled her heart as she faced this Man who had so dealt with the "religious" men of the day. The condemnation she felt within her soul was such that she needed no outside accusers. In response to his question she addressed him as "Lord" and how gracious were the words he uttered in reply, "neither do I condemn thee: go and sin no more".
The eyes of the Lord met hers, not in condemnation, but in love and forgiveness. "For God sent not his son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved". (John 3:17) He left her with the challenge, "go, and sin no more." We do not know the fulfillment of this challenge but if she accepted him as Saviour and felt the weight of her condemnation lifted, then she had all she needed to walk in newness of life. She had just moved from death's door to heaven's portals with entrance guaranteed.
