The Size of God and the Single Christian

“I will praise You, Lord, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” Psalm 139

In my journey with Jesus I learned something from Him, because of the pain of struggle of rejection by others, and what is said about me to me. It concerns the greatness of the Lord, and how we are made. While I believe this is especially encouraging for those who are single, it may be encouraging for many others.

How big is God? We will say He is big, when that is actually an affront to His nature. He is not big. He is infinite; without end, so that the heaven of heavens cannot contain Him.

Because He is so, so are His attributes, to include holiness, grace, knowledge, strength, etc. As is His infinitude, so is His creativity. Look at the variety of creatures on this earth, then remember there were more creatures here before, but many have been made extinct. Great is His creativity, and it shows in His prolific nature to make so many different things.

Now look at the pinnacle of His creation-man. Even those are so varied in number, while being a part of the same species, there are different ethnicities. Within that, there are different textures and colors of hair and skin. Then within those ethnicities, there are different personalities, different variations of a theme; different personality types with different perspectives on similar experiences.

Because of those different perspectives, there are different ways of seeing things, especially physical things. It is from there, I wish to speak.

This is true: Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Beauty is a matter of perspective, because of the different perspectives, there are many different takes or views on what seems alluring, compelling, or beautiful. What one may find attractive, another may find repulsive. What I may find beautiful, another may find disgusting. It is based on perspective.

When I realized this, it released me from something I once was in bondage to: the opinions of others concerning me. Many things that one may say about me, actually had to do more with them then about myself. It was not that I was unattractive, but that I was unattractive to them. It was simply their view of me; a reflection of themselves.

I quote the verse above, because it was David who realized how the Lord saw him. The Lord’s perspective is the final say on all things. David saw the Lord’s perspective in the verse above, and simply agreed with it. He was amazing in the Lord’s eyes.

It is much like when we make something: a table, a drawing, a written composition, or another human being. We are fascinated by what we have done. So much more is the Lord, to infinitude.

But the views of humans are very limited, and unreliable, even while varied. Their variety may actually be their weakness and untrustworthiness. I would say “yes” to that.

He, being greater, can orchestrate things, even humans, to develop one who’s perspective may match a facet of His own, through birth, through life experiences, to include trials, successes and failures. Because of that, we who have suffered rejection or disapproval may meet someone who has a perspective that meets up with how we are made; the so-called “perfect fit”.

While one may have heard, “You’re too short for me”, “You’re too heavy for me,” or “You’re too intense about things for me,” this same person may hear someone else say of them, “Where have you been all my life?!” This is simply because of the greatness of the Lord, to shape a person as such.

So what do I do with that revelation? I trust what the Lord has said of me. I trust in His infinitude. It is a trust that works itself out in patiently waiting for Him. It is I who decides to let Him do with me as He wills, to include that one special relationship.

While there is sin, and the need to be responsible with what the Lord has given us, there is nothing wrong with what He created, or allowed to exist. Sin and the consequences of sin overshadow what exists by His will and plan. Our personalities, apart from sin, are marvelous in His eyes, as are our physical attributes. When one comes to Jesus, they simply become a better form of themselves. The Lord does not change the person, but the heart of that same person, to reflect what He intended. Jesus makes us a better us, when we submit to Him. So while sin may overshadow, the light of Jesus, emanating from the person would outshine the sin, to even allow to show through what the Lord intended concerning that person He desired to exist. The real me shines through, through Jesus, to outdo what sin has done.

He really knows best.
