Hello and happy snowy thursday(In St. Louis)! Got off work early so this is a good time to do the verse of the week, and see what God has to say today-
"During the days of Jesus life on earth, He offered up prayers and petitions with loud cries and tears to the one who could save Him from death and he was heard because of his reverant submission." Hebrews 5:7
Well, maybe the best thing to do with this verse is answer a few simple questions and look at them more in depth and refer to scripture for help. Lets answer these 3 questions-why should we pray? HOW should we pray? What happens when we pray!

WHY SHOULD WE PRAY-
James tells us that the prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective(Chapter5, verse 16b). We should pray because God wants to hear it. Prayer moves Gods heart. Prayer changes things. Prayer aligns us with the will of God! There are a lot of people who are lost and without Jesus. We need to pray on their behalf cause they can't pray for themselves. The do not know how. In order to know how to pray to God the father, one must KNOW God the father and His son, Jesus. As believers, pray is not an option or a request. Its a requirement. God says so :)

HOW SHOULD WE PRAY-
"During the days of Jesus life on earth, He offered up prayers and petitions with loud cries and tears to the one who could save Him from death and he was heard because of his reverant submission." Hebrews 5:7 Like that :) He wants us to put our heart into it, just like Jesus did. I love the movie The Passion of the Christ when Jesus was in the garden praying for the world and you could hear His whole heart in it. It was very moving. If we are moved by watching Jesus pray in the movie, how much more was God the Father moved when He heard his own son pray with reverance and with great compassion for sinners. He cried and He pleaded on behalf of you and me. We did not deserve it. It is such a great joy(to me at least) to think of a person who seems beyond help, and lift them up in prayer! Just see what happens and see the insight that the Holy Spirit gives you about that person. He will show us how to pray when we don't know what to say. And also, we should pray in faith "Because when he asks, he should believe and not doubt because a man who doubts is like a wave in the sea, blown and tossed by the wind." James 1:6
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN WE PRAY?
HEAVEN AND EARTH MOVE!!! NEVER THINK THAT YOUR PRAYERS DO NOT COUNT. They do, God hears the cries of His people. They do not come back void they produce results. It is important to pray "Thy will be done" because if we dont, we will get disappointed, but if we truly trust the Lord to do His perfect will in His own timing, we will see His hand and be blessed. Psalm 34:4 says "I sought the Lord and he answered me!". He will always answer when one of His children are calling Him. Cry out to God! He wants to hear your heart! He delights in it. We never know where our prayers will help. But I know that when we get to Heaven there will be people who will come up to us and say-"hey, thanks for your prayers on earth. they really helped me in this one situation." And of course our Lord will be pleased as well!
