THE LONG ARM OF THE LORD
A little girl is walking along a rock path with her father. She trips and falls to the ground. Without hesitation, the father REACHES DOWN and gently lifts her back onto her feet.

"He REACHED DOWN from on high and took hold of me;
He drew me out of deep waters.
He rescued me from my powerful enemy,
from my foes, who were too strong for me.
They confronted me in the day of my disaster,
but the Lord was my support.
He brought me out into a spacious place;
He rescued me because He delighted in me."
Psalm 18:16-19 NIV.

[when I took one of my many falls]

He drew me out of deep waters.
[though drowning in my troubles, He REACHED DOWN]

He rescued me from my powerful enemy,
["I have met the enemy and it is I"]
[singular from "we have met the enemy and it is us"]

from my foes, who were too strong for me.
[my weighty innermost thoughts and fears]

They confronted me in the day of my disaster,
[sometimes every day seems like a disaster]

but the Lord was my support.
[the undergirding foundation of my salvation]

He brought me out into a spacious place;
[wide-open spaces..., spiritual freedom again]

He rescued me because He delighted in me."
[why me? well, He's just like that...]
[besides, He has a very Long Arm!]
