Thrift Shop Blues

Last week I went shopping at the local "thrift."
I was down and out and needed a lift.

In my pocket I had just a few cents,
I needed a present and things were quite tense.

Now only two things help when a woman is blue;
Just shopping, or eating chocolate will do.

I grabbed a cart, couldn't resist the urge.
With not much sense, Visa and I began to splurge.

"After all,it's a thrift shop," I said to myself,
"Think of the money I'll save," as I cleared the first shelf.

"That clock's just the one I want on my wall,
for that price, that lamp I couldn't get at the mall."

"Hmm...my jeans are all worn out in the knees,
Better look for a pair of some decent blue 'Lees'."

Couldn't pass by the books for my grandson's sake.
Free coffee was offered--so I took a break.

I kept reading and reading, piling up my cart;
Filling it more than I would at Wal-Mart.

The old tapes and records caused me to stop,
I sorted through music; oldies, praise, pop and do-wop.

The old albums I couldn't believe I'd found,
I bought, even when there's no phonos around.

I checked out, with all my colorful tags,
Into my cart I loaded ten bags!

But it hit me when I closed my ol'Saturn's trunk,
I'm in more debt and in more of a funk.

The moral of this tale is sad, but true:

THRIFT STORES WON'T SAVE YOU WHEN YOU ARE BROKE, DOWN AND BLUE!

BUT JESUS WILL!
