When All Hope is Lost!
Luke 24:21
But we trusted that it had been he which should have redeemed Israel: and beside all this, to day is the third day since these things were done.

So here we have two men walking down a road and a stranger appears. In verse 17 Jesus asks them why they are sad, and one of the guys was astounded that he didn’t know what had happened. How could anyone live in the area and not know they just crucified the one they believed to be the Messiah!

You see they thought the Messiah who they’d grown up hearing about would come to live on earth and rule as a king. They couldn’t imagine anything else. They lived in a box! They didn’t even know until later that they were with the man they were mourning! They thought all hope was lost and Hope was walking with them the whole time.

Can you imagine walking with a stranger down the road and talking with this stranger only to realize later that you communed with Jesus?

Before we are too hard on these two men, take a step back and realize that we are just as guilty! It happens everyday! Jesus shows up and we miss him because we trust - just like these men - in our ideas or the things we have been told our entire life.

It is difficult for us to step outside of our ideas and realize that Jesus just may appear on a lonely road! He may appear in the dark alley! He may appear in the hospital room! Just when you think all hope is lost, Hope might be walking by your side. Look closer at those you come in contact with! Jesus may show up when you least expect Him!


Thought for today: Have you walked with Jesus lately?

Oh Lord, how many times have we’ve missed you? How often have we’ve looked for you to show up in a religious form or custom, when all the time you have been walking right by our side?

Lord, open our eyes so that we see you in the smallest of ways. Open our ears Lord so we hear your whisper! Open our heart Lord so we can accept you! Lord, knock down the walls of our proverbial boxes and reveal yourself to us in incredible ways! We no longer want to miss you in the smallest or largest of ways!

In Jesus name we ask, AMEN
