Turn Off the Noise

Isaiah 26:3 (Amplified Bible)

You will guard him and keep him in perfect and constant peace whose mind [both its inclination and its character] is stayed on You, because he commits himself to You, leans on You, and hopes confidently in You.

One evening I was driving home alone. My daughter was heavy on my mind as I thought about her current situation and wondered if things were going to take a turn for the better or only go down hill. The road spread out before me and my thoughts raced creating a whirlwind within my mind. Then I heard the noise. It was like a shockwave through my system. The radio was loud because the windows were down, but I had left the zone of clarity and the static screamed at me as if mocking my existence.

Turning off the radio, I was suddenly thrust into an unusual silence. I was alone with my thoughts! The sound of music could not interrupt the process – the static of the world had been shut out, if but for a moment. I began to realize how I was always quick to turn on the radio! I needed the noise, I welcomed the melodies, but in the middle of it all, it clouded my thoughts.

Within a few moments my thoughts went from confusion and fear to the Word of God. Scripture began to surface and God’s promises began to lighten the load! I had turned off the noise and allowed my heart and mind to meditate on God, His Word, His promises and His goodness.

King David found an important key.

I will remember the works of the Lord: surely I will remember the wonders of old. I will meditate also of all thy work, and talk of thy doings. (Psalms 77:11-12)

The hustle and bustle of life brings about static and noise!

Before we know it we’re caught up; we’re wrapped up and the music of the world fills our hearts and minds. As believers we have an avenue the world does not know about! We can be in perfect peace when the static of the world sends shock waves through our system! Regardless what we see or hear, if we tap into the resource of the Word we can drown out the chaos! Those around us will wonder how we can still smile when everything seems to be crumbling! People will ask how you do it – they won’t understand – but they will be drawn to you!

I’m not saying take the radio out of your car and stop listening to music; I am suggesting that some time throughout the chaotic hustle of your day that you find time to mediate on the Word! Carve out a moment to spend time with God! It is these moments that you will discover peace! It is the accumulation of these moments that you will no longer be affected by the static of the world!

Lord, thank You for surrounding us with Your Word! Thank You for providing us with a place of safety and peace! When everything is out of control, we can abide under the shadow of the Almighty! Thank You Lord for Your provisions! Thank You Lord for loving us enough to provide a place of peace in a static filled world! Amen!
