Grizzly mane, a sight to see;
Bent over by guilt of sin;
He desires, from frame, to be free,
And be a simple man;

But he can’t escape his woe;
He follows him all about;
He sees him in his mirror’s glow,
And wails a mournful shout;

In a crowd, one night, he sees a Man,
One of princely kind;
Following like an adoring fan,
Forgets how he’s confined;
The Man turns about
To see this sad beast;
He beckons with a love devout
Like holy King and Priest,
“Friend, what would you like,
For Me, to do for You?”
The gravelly voice shook the night;
Spoke words all too true:

“I hate my life that’s given me,
I feel You are the Way;
Lord, dear One, make me free;
All You need is say!”

The Man touched him,
His hand answered his plea;
The wicked curse of sin
Left for all to see
A man made whole
Standing fully upright;
Clean was his soul;
Felt a strange new might;

But to all this Prince
Deformed before their sight;
The image made them all wince;
It seemed so far from right;

The former hunchback pled
With a weep in his words,
“O Lord, this sight I dread
On You’s a woeful scourge;
It is not fair, to You my King,
To take my curse on You!”
Then the Prince began to sing,
With words just as true,

“What you say, you’ve spoken well;
Truly grace is not fair;
I have chosen to take your hell;
It’s My right to share;
I’ve deemed you to receive
My righteous privilege;
For you have truly believed;
Now you’re within My hedge.”

The new man wept
With much humility;
This truth, hard to accept,
For its divinity;
A new love soared,
Deep within his heart,
This King he now adored
And chose to impart;

Then, with joy, this Lord
Set upon a new path;
The Man was seen by him restored
Be subject to heaven’s wrath;
He came to his own
As the Thing of offense;
The sight, a chill to bone,
As He met without defense
Strikes by evil men,
Pawns of celestial plan;
To death, He, they sent;
They considered Him as damned;

Confused the simple man
Walked away hollow-hearted;
He seemed, to him, the great ‘I am’,
Yet, by death, departed;
Gray days had passed;
All three of them;
To him, they were a great contrast
To the joy he felt within;

He began to wonder why
He had felt this way;
Came to him a question’s sigh,
“Am I under Satan’s sway?”
A voice then spoke from behind,
He quickly turned about;
The Prince stood unconfined,
New man let out a shout,

“O, My Lord, You’re here,
And You are alive!
The sight of You brings me cheer;
I started to take a dive;

“I saw You die a gruesome way;
They treated You, oh, so ghastly;
Yet You’re now alive, will you stay?;
Surely you’re power’s more than vastly;”

“No, My child; I must leave;
I go the Father’s way;
Yet, dear one; do not bereave;
I’m with you every day;
Take My heart, with its truth;
There I’ll always be;
Make My love your final proof
Of how I made you free;

“Tell the world what I’ve done;
My joy is made complete;
And as I am the Father’s Son:
All can be replete;”

The Son then lighted away,
Through the clouds, out o’ sight;
Yet the new man knelt to pray,
And he prayed with a new might:

“Lord, You’re more gracious than
I could e’er know;
I take Your Son, this one of Man,
And take Him for all to show,
How You are with Your great love;
You take us, all our woes;
Through Him, we’re borne above,
We’re sons of Sharon’s Rose;

“And I will be forever Yours,
With all that I am;
With Your strength for eternal chores;
That many would not be damned.”

And how could I know this story;
I know each and every fact;
It was I who saw His glory,
For I am heaven’s hunchback.
