A WOMAN’S PERFECT ENVIRONMENT

Now more than ever, a woman needs to identify an environment from which she operates most easily, joyously and effectively. The woman has been and is still the central figure in most families. She influences most of what happens in the family and has an incredible ability to multi task. All animals, human race and plants have specific environments in which they thrive well. For instance, fish will not survive out of the water nor do human beings survive without air. In the same way, spiritually, we cannot thrive without the presence of God. It is important to remember that when we are born again, Jesus Christ comes to live in our hearts; thus, we have the abiding presence of God all the time. Although we have this presence with us all the time, we still need to continually make it real to us and our surroundings.
The world has had its own ways of promoting women of influence and excellence. At different times, we have heard different opinions about how to be successful women. For a while, we were taught that a woman’s place is in the kitchen, and she was only to be seen and not heard. Then several women movements came by to fight for our rights, encouraging women to pursue careers and fight for equality. I have tried all these ways, but I am persuaded that neither place is the perfect environment for a woman. A woman’s perfect place is in the presence of God. Although we came to this great land of America with great expectations to thrive financially and maximize our potential, like me, you may have learned fast that this is not necessarily the best environment to thrive spiritually. It is so fast and busy that most of the time we just add God to our busy to do list.
As a mother of three teenagers with a full time job and facilitating in Bible studies from time to time, sometimes I feel as if I am just going through motions of life, without really making a dent. I believe most of the women identify with my situation. This is made worse by the fact that most of the jobs we do (including in our own homes) are a struggle to us. In Kenya, most of the time we did not do dishes, cook or clean houses because we had house help. Whenever we are overwhelmed and frustrated, let us remember to leave whatever we are doing and seek the presence of God, in his presence there is enough joy and peace to take us through these chores. There are several ways we attract the presence of God, some of which are discussed in this article.
We need to discern times when Jesus wants to spend time with us, this may be times not convenient to us, but if only we respond to Him, there are great rewards for us. In Luke 38:38-42, the Bible narrates of a story of two sisters, Mary and Martha who loved Jesus a lot. In this story, we learn that Mary was sitting at Jesus’ feet listening to His teaching, while Martha was busying herself preparing a meal for the occasion. As Martha got frustrated and complained to Jesus, she was rebuked and reminded Mary had chosen to do the right thing. I believe God is reminding us all the time in our busy lives, that we could be achieving much more by responding to His presence, than keeping busy all the time. In His presence, He wants to pour His wisdom, knowledge and understanding to us, so we can do what we do effectively and efficiently.
We attract the presence of God when we live a life of thanksgiving. He tells us to enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise. We thank God in everything because we know the situation does not matter. We know no weapon formed against us shall prosper. I have come to learn that murmuring and complaining is an unthankful, ungrateful person talking. You and I have so much to thank God for, the protection against great adversity during settling in a foreign country and much more. In Deuteronomy 8, God reminds the Israelites never to forget how He led them all the way in the desert for forty years. If we make effort to remember what the entire Lord has done for us since we came to America, He will put a song of thanksgiving and praise in our hearts. As we stop murmuring and complaining for what we do not have and instead thank Him for what He has provided, His presence will be so real and we will be able to walk in the fullness of His joy.
We also attract the presence of God by worshipping Him at all times. Worship is not a slow song as most of us have been taught, but it a lifestyle. It involves more than singing, and raising our hands in church. Authentic worship is from our hearts, and making sure we obey Him. Worshipping God is being in awe of Him and putting Him first place in our lives. It is connecting with Him twenty four hours daily. We worship Him while we minister to our children, our spouses and when we are working; we do this by performing all what we do with excellence as if we were doing it for Jesus Himself. If we make an attempt to live this kind of life, we will find strength and joy in doing all we do. We will stop ministering and performing out of duty and start giving from the abundance of our hearts….giving others all what he pours in us when we allow His presence to us.
In conclusion, I encourage every woman who has had a chance to read this article to continue walking with the Prince of peace Christ Jesus. Let us be women who acknowledge His presence and who make his presence real to us all the time. I hope we be vessels of honor to Him, using our mouths to worship and thank Him all the time.
