My heart is laid bare and raw,
With light and salt flooding in;
Spirit-grieved and convicted,
My life almost stops for a moment;

You have left me in this grotto
With my wound and sin;
I cannot turn from either,
For there is nothing here
To take me away;

Yet I see I am not forsaken;
Your presence is still my water;
In my foolishness I deny myself a drink,
And the strikes within are more fierce;

So I draw near to Your pool;

My heartache’s relieved with grace;
Your love lifts my head;
Your mercy is my wound’s balm;

You ever desire great things for me,
For these things are implanted deep,
Within my spirit;
The promise and the hope,
They convict and comfort me;

Father!
Grant me an excellent heart!
Let come forth
That which approves mighty things,
By an abounding of knowledge
And all discernment;

Let ignorance of heart be replaced,
By the knowing of my God and Lord;
Let this knowledge and discernment
Be seen in my flesh,
That You would be glorified;

Amen!
