It’s a normal Friday,
A usual night,
The beer is flowing,
He wants to fight.
The TV’s getting louder,
As his drunken senses fade,
Who is this monster that alcohol has made?
His everyday look,
Turns to an angry scowl,
Our stomach’s are in knots,
How much more will our nerves allow?
Sprawled across the floor in a comatosed heap,
We start to relax,
He’s fallen asleep.
This once happy man with drive and ambition,
In a desperate state,
Oblivion being his only mission
Was it us?
Or was he to blame?
It makes no difference,
The result was just the same

Let me introduce to you my daddy,
This big and stable man,
The one I should look up to,
From where I’m standing I’m not to sure I can.
A cigarette burnt out in one hand,
Empty cans on the floor,
Our lives are in turmoil,
We can take it no more.

He was an unbeliever right down to the core,
We thought there was no hope,
Not knowing God,
We never knew what He had in store.
All our lives in destruction,
All drenched in sin,
God could watch no more,
So He stepped in.
He took hold of my Daddy,
The man we started to despise,
Touched his heart and soul,
Before our very eyes.
God let him reach his lowest of low,
To show him,
And us,
Just how deep the love of Jesus goes.

Years later and both parents stand,
singing praises to God,
Lifting their hands

As I stand by and watch,
Pride stirs within me,
Realising God was there the whole time,
But I just couldn’t see.

Thank you Father for what you’ve done,
Reunited a family through the blood of Your son.

So let me introduce to you my daddy,
This big and stable man,
The one I again look up to,
And I’m so proud to say I can.
