Troubled and sorrowful he went to pray,
Asking his friends to watch over him and stay.
He fell on his face ,
“My father,
if it is possible,
may this cup be taken from me.
Yet not as I will,
But as you will.”
Knowing the torture he was going to endure,
Praying even harder,
Drops of blood trickling down his face,
He knew what he had to,
To join you into the Fathers embrace.
Loving us so much,
He was willing to die,
Just for you to feel his comforting touch.
Through this time of anguish,
Back to his friends he went to see,
Finding them sleeping,
Not even for an hour could they be there for him.
Just like you and me!!
Three times he went back to pray,
Returning to find his friends,
Still in the same way.
Then the betrayers kiss came upon his cheek,
Replying with dignity and grace Jesus said,
“Friend who do you seek?”
The guards grabbed his arms,
Like he was a dangerous man,
Peter drew his sword,
And from the guards head the blood ran.
Jesus rebuked Peter and healed the man’s ear,
With a face full of love,
He showed no fear.
Being led to the courts in the dead of night,
They were waiting for a reaction,
Wanting to see him fight.
The men who were guarding him,
Covered his face,
Throwing punches and insults,
To satisfy their evil tastes.
By the early hours,
To Pilate he was brought,
But even he said,
“With this man I find no fault”,
Then he led Jesus to the roaring crowds,
Where they shouted,
“Pierce him with the nails”.
Pilate ordered Jesus to be beat,
The guards waiting to take him,
For his fateful meet.
Beating him with a whip dipped in resin,
Glass and bone,
They brought it down on his naked back.
40 lashes was the usual amount,
They beat him so much they must of lost count.
His torn open skin,
His back ripped to shreds,
But then came the crown of thorns,
To be hammered on his head.
They then dressed him up in a long purple robe,
On the floor in mock worship,
The whole time trying to goad.
Outside he was dragged,
Upon his shoulders his own cross was slung,
Now the journey of Calvary had begun.
With spit dripping from his battered face,
His so body so wounded,
Stumbling his pace.
They laid him down on that cross of wood,
Hammering those nails,
With all that they could.
The nails pierced his hands,
And he turned his face to see.
Now all sin had been covered,
And he did it all for you and me.
2000 years on,
Mans still the same,
Disbelieving and mocking,
The reason that he came.
But still he seeks you everyday,
Giving you the choice,
To walk his special way.
We look on with caution,
Saying “this sounds to good to be true”,
“There must be a catch,
What will I have to do?”
And at that moment,
He draws you close,
And he whispers to your heart,
“My dear child,
Nothing can you do,
I want to give you life,
Because……....I LOVE YOU”
