As an eager sun arises
and awakes a brand new day
Bringing to light the wonderment
of God’s glorious display
His tender rays of sunshine
gently shush the morning dew
As all within the forest wake,
to greet the dawn’s debut

Thus begins a new adventure
beneath the forest canopy
Where the cedar, oak and maple
nod and join the jubilee
While the daffodil and lilac
rub the slumber from their eyes
The sage and heather genuflect,
before the day’s reprise

With anticipation hanging
in the crispy morning air
Prudent fauna of the forest
leave the refuge of their lair
As a white tailed deer looks down
at his reflection in the brook
A curious fox stops
and takes a second look

While a platypus and bullfrog
huddle near the water’s edge
The patient eagle watches
perched upon his mountain ledge
The sparrow, dove and nuthatch
fill the air with melody
As the wise old owl keeps vigil,
from his roost within a tree

And deep within the forest,
among the foliage and fern
Two bear cubs wait impatiently
for mother’s assured return
As a grey squirrel buries acorns
to thwart the winter’s pall
A wolf begins to howl
as the sun begins to fall

And as the sleepy sun begins
to close his weary eyes
A depleted day capitulates
unto the night’s disguise
As a placid moon arises
to a star lit skies display
The sleeping forest dreams
of another coming day
