Larry Lilly's Letter Friday September 29, 2006

An old farmer met a friend down at the local Wal-Mart and as they talked one remarked, "You, know, Bill I used to come over to your town quite often. It was a day's round trip by horse and buggy. I can do it now in about an hour but I don't have time!"

Time.

Franklin called it the essence of life, and we are told to organize our time, to use it wisely, not to waste it and the scripture tells us to redeem the time because the days are evil. We use hourglasses, clocks, Rolex's and sundials to measure it, yet we still refuse to face the fact that time is sphere in which we must be saved and prepare for that timeless place called eternity.

Do you think it's strange that we don't have time for each other, yet we know the names and deep secrets of 50 or more characters on TV programs? I know a lady who knows more about Dr. Phil than she does her children. I distinctly remember being totally embarrassed at a mid-week prayer service after listening for at least ten minutes to the request of a saintly woman concerning the terrible time a friend of hers was going through. I was really moved in my heart until one of the more knowledgeable people pointed out that our lady of the broken heart was requesting prayer for a character in a day time soap opera. About the only thing such a waste of time can be good for is the sponsors and writers of such tripe.

Jesus Christ THE Son God taught us that time is important in that we have limited time, and He included Himself in the truth, when He said:

"I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work." John 9:4

The things that matter in eternity must be worked out during the daytime, for time will ceased to be measured and there is no record of souls being saved when time shall be no more. This truth is openly taught to us by the Lord in order that we might 'get with it' and make today count for God’s glory.

I was complaining to the Great Blonde about the things that irritate me and in her wisdom this love of my youth said, "Well, Larry, why don't you write out in detail the things that irritate you." I thought, she is smarter than her hair would lead you to believe. I didn't realize just how brilliant until I wrote:

"The thing that irritates me most is for people to interrupt me when I am trying to do God's work."

Why, of all the pretty girls in the world did I have to marry this smarty pants. I did not want this truth to be implanted into my heart with laser like accuracy. I wanted sympathy. I urge you to never even think about marrying a smart blonde. I don't know why the Lord wants me use the limited time available to help people, when I should be doing His work.
