MY NEED FOR THANKFULNESS

As I stood at the window looking at the children down the street, I felt lonely for family. On holidays like today, the 4th of July, I miss my family more than ever. The laughter, the food, and the people make me remember growing up in a small town. I was around my family a lot growing up. The memories take me back to how good I had it and do have it.
Being the wife of a military member has so much good to offer. I get to move every 2-3 years and that means a new house. I get to see our wonderful country and meet a lot neat people.
The down side is being far from family, going to unfamiliar territory, uprooting your children again, and seeing your children as lonely you are sometimes.
I think about the pioneer mother and her loneliness. She really had it hard. She had no phone, internet, car, or other modern conveniences. She could travel days just to mail a letter or attend church. I don’t think I could stand not talking to family and friends for years. I imagine letters from home were coveted and greatly longed for.
The point I’m trying to make is I should be so thankful instead of lonely. Our family is healthy. We can call home. My husband is home and not deployed overseas. We have a very nice house. My children are doing well in school. America is still a free nation.
I am so thankful for all the generations that have went before me to giver everything for a free nation. They died and were wounded all for liberty. Many women sent their husbands and sons off to war for a better world and many are doing this still today. They wanted their children and grand children to have something more than they had.
I should be grateful for their determination and courage. They have made this nation great. I have free speech, freedom of religion and so many more that there’s not enough space here to name them.
I may be feeling homesick, but I just wanted to say thank you to all the men and women who have sacrificed their all. I know some many have not fought in a war, but each one has given what they could in keeping our country free.
As my husband and I raise our children to love this nation, I hope we can do what we can to keep it free.
