Paying Attention to the Word the Word is medicine

My son, pay attention to what I say;
listen closely to my words.
21 Do not let them out of your sight,
keep them within your heart;

22 for they are life to those who find them
and health to a man's whole body.
(Prov 4:20-22)

My Son
This is a personal message from Father to Child. We must take it as God personally addressing us- male or female. We start approaching the word of God like that god will begin to speak to us.

Pay attention
Often we are distracted by many things like Martha. Unless we pay attention, listen attentively we would miss what he wants to tell us through the word. Attention must be undivided by turning of the television and avoiding any distraction. We must also call our minds to attention to prevent it from wandering.
A habit that has helped me is to make notes when the word is being preached.

Listen closely
Intimacy comes with closeness the more you’re intimate with the Lord, the more you will be sensitive to His Spirit. You will recognize His voice more readily, because you are used to it.

Do not let them out of your sight and
Keep them in the midst of your heart.
This means you need to read habitually, so much that you memorize it -even without much effort. You can even see it with your mind’s eyes when the book is not in front of you. The Holy Spirit will also bring it to your remembrance. You can look at the word while you’re waiting for a bus. Or listen to tapes in your car or even listen to the bible on Cd as you walk along the way. There many creative ways we can ensure the word is always within our sight.

The benefits of paying attention to God’s word and reading it habitually and even memorizing it is that it produces the life of God in you and becomes a healing balm to you. You take it as God’s pills when you’re sick or even use it to ward off sickness and disease, because it is health, healing and vitality to your body.

Is there no balm in Gilead, Is there no physician there? Why then is there no recovery For the health of the daughter of my people? (Jer8;22)

And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease among the people.(Matt4:23)

20 He sent forth his word and healed them;
he rescued them from the grave. (Ps107:20)

8The centurion replied, "Lord, I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed. 9For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I tell this one, 'Go,' and he goes; and that one, 'Come,' and he comes. I say to my servant, 'Do this,' and he does it." (Matt.8:8-9)

12For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.(Heb4:12)

However, the report went around concerning Him all the more; and great multitudes came together to hear, and to be healed by Him of their infirmities. (Luke 5:15)

And He came down with them and stood on a level place with a crowd of His disciples and a great multitude of people from all Judea and Jerusalem, and from the seacoast of Tyre and Sidon, who came to hear Him and be healed of their diseases,
(Luke 6:17)

This man heard Paul speaking. Paul, observing him intently and seeing that he had faith to be healed, (Acts 14:9 )
