1Sam17:41-51
41 So the Philistine came, and began drawing near to David, and the man who bore the shield went before him. 42 And when the Philistine looked about and saw David, he disdained him; for he was only a youth, ruddy and good-looking. 43 So the Philistine said to David, “Am I a dog, that you come to me with sticks?” And the Philistine cursed David by his gods. 44 And the Philistine said to David, “Come to me, and I will give your flesh to the birds of the air and the beasts of the field!”
45 Then David said to the Philistine, “You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin. But I come to you in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. 46 This day the LORD will deliver you into my hand, and I will strike you and take your head from you. And this day I will give the carcasses of the camp of the Philistines to the birds of the air and the wild beasts of the earth, that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel. 47 Then all this assembly shall know that the LORD does not save with sword and spear; for the battle is the LORD’s, and He will give you into our hands.”
48 So it was, when the Philistine arose and came and drew near to meet David, that David hurried and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine. 49 Then David put his hand in his bag and took out a stone; and he slung it and struck the Philistine in his forehead, so that the stone sank into his forehead, and he fell on his face to the earth. 50 So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and a stone, and struck the Philistine and killed him. But there was no sword in the hand of David. 51 Therefore David ran and stood over the Philistine, took his sword and drew it out of its sheath and killed him, and cut off his head with it.
And when the Philistines saw that their champion was dead, they fled.1Sam17:41-51
Notice the title says when, not if. There will always be a Goliath sooner or later. So, be prepared.
Goliath will always come in one for or another in your life and my life sooner or later and we must be prepared for him. All scriptures are given to us to teach us and prepare us for the evil day, to enable us stand our ground and win the battle we face to the glory of God.
God has done His part and we have to do our part to overcome. Whereas the battle is not ours but the Lord’s our role is still important. We need to step out in the name of the Lord. We need to trust Him and use the weapons He has given to us. We also need to learn to wait upon Him when the victory is delayed. We need to understand the strategies of the enemy, learn to hear from God and do what He bids us.


Who/what is Goliath?
Goliath represents anything that wants to abort your destiny, keep you in bondage and servitude,
What weapon does Goliath use?
Goliath uses fear as a key weapon. He will scare the hell out of you.v10-11
How long will Goliath confront?
It is persistent like Goliath was for forty days. v16
Is Goliath forever?
Goliath’s days are numbered v16
What is the role of experience in the Battle against Goliath?
You must learn to win little battles before going to face a Goliath.(the bigger battles)- by building up your faith; exercising your faith little by little.vv34-37
What do we need to know about focus and perspective in this battle?
Goliath magnifies itself above proportion. The more you focus on him, the bigger he becomes.1Sam17:7
How do I know that Goliath is Satan personified?
You must recognise it for what it is –satanic (666), the enemy of God and your enemyv7
How important is my knowledge of Covenant in this battle?
You must recognise, acknowledge and apply your covenant relationship with God and like David did (1Sam17:26.)
How do you see God in relation to Goliath?
You must see God bigger than your Goliath; he enemy is not as formidable as he seems.v26,36
What is the role of the confession of my mouth?
You must Speak faith all the way.v45-47
How do I move against the enemy?
You must take the battle to the enemy v48,51
What should I constantly remind myself as I take the battle to the enemy?
You must realise that the battle is not yours but the Lord’s. v47
What do I do about the enemy at home?
You must win the opposition at the home.v26-31
What weapons do I use against the enemy?
You must not use carnal weapons but what God has given you.v39
How do I see the enemy?
You must see the enemy dead before he is dead.v45-46
What do I do with the weapons of the enemy?
Use the weapon of the enemy against him.v51
What is the importance of motive in my war against the enemy?
Let your motive be right- that the glory of the Lord will be seen.v51
What part do I have to play in this battle?
You must recognise that God wants to work with you. You must play your part, not leave it all to God.v45-51
What is symbolic about David cutting off Goliath’s head?
You must cut of Goliath’s head. Rout him comprehensively! There must be no compromise. Take no prisoners.v51

God is on our side. Jesus has won the victory and He is at the Father’s right hand praying for us. He has given us His Holy Spirit to stand by us, tech us energize us, help us anoint us for battle.

The battle is not ours but the Lord’s. Through our God we shall do valiantly .if God be for us who can be against us. Thanks be to God who always cause us to triumph. Greater is He that is in us than he that is in the world. Whoever is born of God overcomes the world and this is the victory that overcomes the World; even our faith. Faith without works is dead. There has to be corresponding action. We must play our part and take the war to the enemy, not going not in our own strength but in the name of the Lord and in the power of the Holy Spirit.
We must plead the precious and powerful blood of Jesus and wield the sword of the spirit which is the word of God. We must be adorned with the whole armour of God and stand our ground
At the name of Jesus, demons tremble. The name of Jesus is powerful. It is above any other name- of things in heaven, on this earth and things underneath this earth.


Let us pray: Praying the Word


Father, we thank you that you are for us
and no one can be against us.
Thank You for the finished work at Calvary’s cross.
For this purpose Your Son was revealed
that He might destroy all the works of the devil.
Through we are more than conquerors.
We will fear no evil because You are with us
your rod and your staff they comfort us.
You have not given us a spirit of fear
but that of love power and sound mind.
Thank you for the spirit of boldness
that comes from Jesus Christ.

No weapon fashioned against us will prosper
and every tongue that rises against us in judgment
we condemn in the name of Jesus.
There is now no more condemnation
to those who are in Christ Jesus.
For the law of the spirit of life has set us
free from the law of sin and death.
We are past from death to life.

Thank you, Lord, for your angels round about us.
Those that come against us in one way
will flee in seven ways,
because the Lord is our light and our salvation.
Thank You Lord for what You are doing behind the scenes.
The battle is not ours but the Lord’s.
