When Sacra Palmetano discovered that she had lost her Phi Beta Kappa key, her heart almost broke and she also had an immediate headache. She knew that she was wearing her key that afternoon when she went to her Advance Physics class at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Although she could not remember, she thought she had her key when she left campus. Shortly after she entered the sorority house kitchen to get a snack, she missed her key. She thought she lost it somewhere between the Student Union and the sorority house.
The house mother, her roommate and Sacra traced and retraced her steps from the Student Union to the porch of the sorority house. They looked under the chair where she sat in class and the desks in the vicinity, checked both sides of the path she walked, bent low to examine the ground where leaves, bits of sticks and paper trash lay scattered outside of the sorority house, but to no avail. There was no key. That 3 inch, shiny, diamond studded key seemed lost to Sacra forever.
As she sat about to cry over her loss, her older brother came by. He retraced his sister’s every step steps from the Student Union to the sorority house. His painstaking efforts soon paid off. He found the key hidden in a bush just in front of the sorority house gleaming in the late afternoon sun. In order to recover the key, he had to get down on his knees to reach his sister’s Phi Beta Kappa key.
Sacra felt ashamed of herself. “Why didn’t I make the same kind effort my brother made?” “After all,” she thought to herself. “It is my key that was lost.”
Could it be that Sacra and we are sometimes as careless about finding Jesus? Are we willing to bow our heads and get down on our knees to find your way to Him when He become hidden from our sight in the bushes of the every day fast paced aspects of life that we tend to lead daily? Is Jesus much more valuable than a Phi Beta Kappa key?
