Man's guilty conscience never could come
Nigh to the Holy One,
So an earthly priest went behind the veil
For the sinner unclean, undone.

And there in the Holy of Holies
With the blood of an innocent lamb,
The priest stood between the sinful man
And his God, the great I AM.

Yes, there before the Presence of God,
Atonement he would make.
When God saw the blood on the Mercy Seat
He forgave for His own Name's sake.

But the blood of lambs and goats and bulls
Could never remove man's sin.
It covered his shame from year to year
But cleansed him not within.

So God sent another spotless Lamb
Who would forever remove man's shame,
And once for all take away his sin...
Jesus was His name!

He was led as a lamb to the slaughter
Up a hill called Mount Calvary.
When God saw the blood, atonement was made
Once for all... for you and for me!

Let us now draw near unto our God...
Not far-off in shame and disgrace,
For the veil of the temple is now rent in twain...
We may seek Him face to face!


Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost. And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom...
