Love is never simple
And fate rarely kind
We’re always moving forward
But looking behind

We plan for tomorrow
But wish for yesterday
And reaching for the future
We somehow miss today

Our children are dying
Yet no one hears their cries
As we keep on trying
To close our eyes

We claim to remember
How easy we forget
That God won’t wait forever
‘Till we must pay our debt

Life can be simple
Love can be kind
If we stop moving forward
And take what we’ve left behind
