SANCTUARY



You’ve waited for me
Decade upon oaken decade
Though in your years of newness
You would not have called my name
Not sought my burden

But you beckon now
From far
And near
Offering your arms to lift me up
To burdenless heights

Ancient comfort
Hemmed in by gnarl-limbed guardians
Saving through the ages
That spot prepared for me
Where truth awaits
Willing me to partake … freely

But I have come
Wearing decades of my own
And your safe harbor stretches
Beyond my years’ reach
My heart’s left standing at your feet
Gazing at my place
Still untouched
Longing …
For what could not be


Be still …
And know that I AM
