REKINDLED FLAME


Inertia
Barely a breeze
Even that in unperceivable puffs
More a tease than a promise
It, too, bears the battering of endless heat
Sapping its strength
Its delightedness

Upon this blanket of stillness
Only traffic sounds scamper

A brave cheep
A delicate twitter
Invade the roar of passage …
For a heartbeat only
While the earth holds its breath
Fearing to add
Even a single exhalation of its own

How hot breath
I’ve forgotten
The heat we carry with us
Heat you can’t strip away
Can’t shed
Like a discarded coat
No longer desired

Life
That spark
That flame of the eternal
Dwelling within us
Lighting our way
Thawing the stillness of the coldest heart



Burn in me, Eternal Flame
Rekindle the fire
‘Til the world burns away
And all I’m left …
Is You
