I confess that lately, I have not been feeling my best. Family issues, job stress, money problems, bad decisions on my part, you name it, have drained me to the point where like Elijah, I was looking for cave to hide myself from the weight of Gibraltar. But this week I just opened my Bible to a random page and a verse that I highlighted some time ago (it was the only verse highlighted on that page) revealed the balm in my Gilead.

“And call upon Me in the day of trouble; I shall rescue you, and you will honor Me.” – Psalm 50:15 (NASB)

I thought I’d share this in the event there were others going through similar circumstances. The “Me” in this verse is obviously God. In the preceding verse, the psalmist described God as Most High, alluding to Genesis 14:18 – 22. The Hebrew word is El Elyon and this title accentuates God’s strength, sovereignty, and preeminence. In other words, God is not an obscure chief of gods (especially since they do not exist) rather; he is in a class all by himself. He is beyond all we can ask or think (Ephesians 3:20). That explains why instead of desiring food sacrifices like pagan gods in Psalms 50:8 – 13, our Creator desires a sacrifice of thanksgiving (50:14).

What does that have to do with the price of gasoline? Glad you asked. Instead of focusing on all the dilemmas surrounding me, I decided to call upon Jesus. And yes friend, he rescued me! Jesus got my mind off the things of this world by getting me to set my mind on things above where he is located (Colossians 3:1 – 2). And let me tell you, I preached the best sermon I’ve ever preached to an audience of one. I began to give God the entire honor or glory that he rightly deserves.

1. Call on the Lord.
2. Jesus will deliver you.
3. Give thanks by glorifying God.

Does that mean my life is now hunky-dory and copasetic? No. But do I have a better way of dealing with my chaos? You bet! Do you have a better way of dealing with your chaos? You bet!
