“Sarah” Sam said. “Have you noticed the big yellow cat that has started hanging out here”?
They were use to having animals, domestic and wild, hang out in their yard. The crows even like to hang out there. Sam would put the food
scrapes out and the animals knew they could always find food.
There was Mrs. White. She was a beautiful white cat. She seemed to be a very refined older feline. Then there was Theo. She was a black calico and a bit more friendly than Mrs. White.
“That is Mrs. White and Theo.” Sarah told Sam one day as they lounged on the deck with the two visitors watching from afar.
“oh yeah!” He teased. “And just how do you know that?” He ask.
“Because Theo told me. Actually her name is Theodore. That is what her mother named her but she doesn’t like to be called that. She prefers Theo.”
Sarah had noticed the big yellow cat but didn’t pay much attention. Sam tried to discourage the cat but she just wouldn’t go away. At night while Sam and Sarah slept the big yellow cat would sit outside the bedroom sliding doors and cry. “Meow! Meow!” Even though they tried to ignore it the cat stayed.
“Looks like a storms coming.” Sam remarked one afternoon. Sure enough it wasn’t long before the clouds moved in and the rain began to pour.
“Oh my, Sarah look!” Sam said as he hurried her toward the door. There just outside the big yellow cat sat in the pouring rain. Soaking wet and begging to come in.
“What do we do?” Sarah ask sadly. They travel to much to have an animal. At least one that would grow to depend on them. But they both knew the couldn’t let the big yellow cat stay out in the rain.
They brought the big yellow cat in and dried her off. Then the three of them cuddled up on the pallet that Sam had made for them in front of the fireplace and fell asleep.
“This really is a nice cat.” Sarah told Sam. “She has been declawed and she even uses the liter box you fixed for her.” She would even stand on her hind legs and take the cat treats out of your hands. “Who ever lost this cat must really be sad!” Sarah stated.
She always came back when they let her out. She was quite the hunter also. On occasion she would bring them gifts such as baby rabbits, chipmunks and little birds that had fallen out of their nest. They were always alive! And yes an occasional mouse. She would lay them at their feet and look up proudly as if to say “Look what I brought you!”
They couldn’t imagine what could have caused her to come here and adopt them for her family. But they was glad she did.
“What shall we call her?” Sam ask. “Miss Kitty.” Sarah replied. It just seemed to fit. They became one big happy family. Miss Kitty loved the attention that she got. She begged for treats and got them often.
“We need to take Miss Kitty to the vet. I am afraid one f the wild animals may bite her and we don’t want her to get rabies.” Sam
explained one day. So they all three made the trip to the vets office.
“Nice cat.” The vet remarked as he looked Miss kitty over. Sam and Sarah began to explain to the vet how Miss Kitty had adopted them and how she would beg for treats. “I can tell! She really does have great teeth. She is about two years old and she weights twenty-three pounds.” He remarked. Sam and Sarah smiled proudly as two parents would.
“But there is one thing I do need to tell you.” The vet said as he frowned and shook his head.
“Miss Kitty’s a Mister!”
