From the time of Adam to Zechariah,
These had told of His forthcoming;
He would be known as Messiah,
God’s will in heart, fully summing;

This is that, spoken by the prophets,
In times, long gone and past;
Even then, their peers had scoffed it,
As sin and curse loomed overcast;

But hope to come remained undaunted,
Even with passing of so many years;
The King would come, found unwanted,
They not knowing, He answered their tears;
His origin is from outside of time,
While Creator of it and all within;
The Crown of God and thus His Sign,
With our agent to cleanse our sin;

They had beheld the coming King,
And many were offended with His manner;
A few found cause in Him to sing,
He being their righteous Banner;

This is that, hailed by the ancients,
So many centuries ago;
Ultimate of heaven; the Father’s Regent,
Claiming that He, we could know,
For He had removed the separation,
The ache of distance from our God;
His body and blood, our Salvation,
Which would free us to make our laud;

To live as one with our Maker,
And find the freedom He has for us;
He being the Father’s curse-breaker,
And raise us all up from the dust,
Not to stay just on this plain,
But to be with Him in His realm;
This is His final glorious aim,
If we give Him our heart’s helm;

And give Him this, this we must,
The true order of His universe;
For He’s the One who made and saved us;
He must be our Love First!
