As I was praying the other day, I noticed a pattern in my prayers.
1. Forgive me for all my sins
2. Help me to be a better servant for you
3. Help those in need of whatever, etc…
4. Thank you for all your many blessings
5. These are all the things that I want

Now if you look at it, it really doesn’t look any different than a lot of people’s prayers. You say there is nothing wrong with this order, except one…

I realized that we quickly go through the first four prayer lists to get to our own. We so focus on our lives and even sometimes asking for things in other people lives that we forget to do one major thing…

PRAISE OUR LORD AND SAVIOUR FOR WHAT HE HAS DONE!!!

Well, we thanked Him for the day, our food, our whatever, but do we truly, honestly, fully give Him thanks?

I put forth this Challenge to you that I am doing once a week. Take one day a week and DO NOT ASK FOR ONE THING!!! That’s right, not one thing. You take the entire day and when something happens you thank God for something. At mealtime, you thank God for something, on the way to work, in the REALLY long line at the grocery store, and even during a bad day at work, when you pray, THANK HIM FOR SOMETHING.

You will not believe how hard it is. Especially, when we don’t thank God enough. God deserves all our praise, not just a five-minute thank you, now lets get down to business…here is what I want from you, kind of thing. He deserves our up most admiration and thanks. Now, please, don’t think I am writing this to brag about my prayer life, because anyone who says that they have arrived in their prayer life is a liar.
We all can improve our prayer life, all of us.

I simply want to challenge you and encourage you to take some time and really praise God for what He has done in your life and mine. I truly believe we miss out on some really big blessings, because we didn’t take time to really thank Him for the things He has already given us.

Try it, take one day and ask for nothing, absolutely NOTHING. Only give thanks. Try it for one full 24-hour day and let me know how it goes in the comments section.
